FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions from Our members Q. How
many members do you have ? A. It
does vary from year to year , but approx. 450- 500 .
All ages from 5 to 85, singles 60%, couples 40%, all levels of skiers and
boarders from beginner to expert, and from all walks of life--
an interesting mix! Q.
Do I have to know how to ski or board? A.
Definitely not. You can learn to ski
as we all had to at one time or you can take part in all the other activities in
snow country. Taking lessons is the easiest , safest , and best way to learn to
ski—not from a buddy. After a few
runs with an instructor , you will be hooked whether it’s on skis or a
snowboard. Q.
Is this a singles club—where I could meet someone ? A.
It is not a singles club, however many
of our members have become couples because they share a love for the sport.
Many couples have also developed new friends and gone skiing year after
year with those same friends. Q.
Do I need to find a roommate , if I’m traveling alone? A.
It would certainly help if you did . Your
trip leader will try to match you up with a same sex roommate ( no
guarantee ). Or another option is to
take the entire bedroom yourself –and pay the single supplement. All
trips are based on a minimum double occupancy. Q.
Do I have to ski by myself—I’m just a beginner? A.
Again , I would encourage you to at least take a refresher lesson-they are not
expensive ,especially the small group lessons.
When you go to the pre-trip party or at the airport or on the bus –ask
who else is at your level and I’m confident you will get a response and have
others wanting to join you. That is
what our club is all about –sharing & having fun. Q.
Are snowboarders allowed at all ski resorts? A.
Almost all –Check with your trip leader –these things change. Q.
How do I pay for my trip? A.
We have a spread plan set up , so you don’t have to pay all at once.
We take checks or cash. Credit
card companies just increase the trip price by 3%-5%, so we opted not to accept
them. If you pay in increments , you
will have your trip paid long before you travel. Q.
Are lift tickets included in the price of trips? A.
Each trip is different –please check with the trip leader . Q.
What kind of lodging –ski-in ski-out , hotels or condos? A.
Again, each trip has its unique setup, but when we can get them reasonably –we
like ski-in, ski-out and prefer condos. Some
areas like Lake Louise and Others
like Snowmass ( Top Of the Village ) offers excellent condo pricing. Q.
Do I need to buy my own ski equipment ? A.
We suggest that you don’t at first –please rent until you know what you like
. The first equipment purchase
should be comfortable ski boots. PeterGlenn
& Ski World both offer sales throughout the year –join the ski club and we
will let you know when those times are. Q.
My first choice of a ski trip is already full –what can I do now? A.
First, get on a wait list with the trip leader ( put a deposit down ). Next,
look to see what your second choice is and sign up for that trip before it is
sold out also. Now go back to your
first choice and see if the trip leader can expand the trip ( it may run more
because of air ), but at least you get the trip you want. Q.
What & how do I pack for this trip? A.
The trip leader will give you a list of suggested items to take along and
PeterGlenn & Ski World have all those items and suggestions on how to pack
them. Q.
Your club sounds interesting –how hard is it to join? A.
I have heard of clubs where you have to be sponsored by a member to belong—not
here!! Just go to the icon on the
home page (
how to join), download a membership app and send it in with your check for $35
single or $45 couple /family. Now ,
tell all your friends about us and get them to join. Q.
How do I sign up for a trip? A.
Go to the ski trips page or non-ski trips page ( if not a ski trip)and download
a trip application , sign it and send it in with a deposit –how much depends
on when you sign up ( it’s on the trip flyer).
You also need to be a member to go on a trip with us –so download a
membership app also ( how to join page or on ski trips page ) and send in with a
separate check . Contact trip leader
by phone or e-mail to make sure they got your info and reserve your
space. Q.
How do I become a trip leader? Do I get a free trip? A.
Again , some clubs have rigid requirements ( must be a member for several years
, gone on at least 2 trips with them, be an assistant trip leader first, have a
resume documenting your leadership , and be sponsored by another trip
leader). Our club is very open –if
you want to be a trip leader , we ask that that you have a following ( 10 people
or more ) that will sign up with you and you agree to lead the group ,collect
monies, and follow our club rules, which are not excessive. You pick the
location, the time you go , and lodging, and we’ll do the rest. Usually the
club will add about 10 to 20 to your 10 and once you hit the minimum # for that
trip –YOUR TRIP IS FREE! This
includes non-ski trips also. Contact
Cal Sennett at skibum0120@aol.com or
call 407-298-2270. Q.
Are there other ways to get A FREE TRIP with
your club? A.
Yes, as a matter of fact, there are other ways.
Our board of directors is always looking for enthusiastic, energetic,
social people who want to be more involved with the club. Someone who likes to
do Public Relations is always welcome ; also we always have a need for a person
with excellent computer skills ( Publisher and Word) to coordinate with the
Webmaster. Then there is the Social Director –puts together a social calendar
for the entire year with happy hours, picnics, tennis & golf events, bike
riding. Depending on the effort you
put in , you could earn A FREE TRIP of your choice.
